Mar-a-Lago: A Gilded Past and a Tumultuous Present

A Historic Landmark with a Checkered History

Nestled amidst 20 acres of manicured lawns and dramatic sea-to-lake vistas, Mar-a-Lago stands as a testament to grandeur and opulence. This National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, has witnessed countless events, from lavish parties to political rallies.

A Glimpse into the Past

Mar-a-Lago's origins lie in the Gilded Age of the late 19th century. In 1924, cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post purchased the property and transformed it into a lavish estate. She commissioned architect Joseph Urban to design a magnificent Spanish-style palace, which she named Mar-a-Lago, meaning "Sea-to-Lake" in Spanish.
