Hannah Gutierrez-Reed: Armorer Charged in Fatal 'Rust' Shooting
Hollywood Armorer Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charges
Thell Reed's Daughter Found Guilty in Halyna Hutchins' Death
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the lead armorer on the film "Rust," has been officially charged with involuntary manslaughter for her role in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.
The charges were filed on January 31, 2023, against Gutierrez-Reed and actor Alec Baldwin, who was holding the gun that fired the fatal shot. Both defendants have denied any wrongdoing.
Gutierrez-Reed, 26, is the daughter of veteran Hollywood armorer Thell Reed. She was responsible for overseeing the firearms and ammunition on the set of "Rust," and has stated that she had checked the gun multiple times before handing it to Baldwin.
The prosecution argues that Gutierrez-Reed was negligent in her duties as the armorer, and that her actions directly contributed to the death of Hutchins. The defense, however, maintains that the shooting was an accident and that Gutierrez-Reed should not be held criminally liable.
The trial is set to begin in April 2023. If convicted, Gutierrez-Reed faces up to 18 months in prison.
